The World's Largest Dungeon

Day 3: Mosquitoes, and Ogres, and Fail-Elves! Oh, my!

The party finds themselves yet again, at the end of another unnecessary skirmish. Everyone appears to be in decent shape, everyone except Althalus. Adonnick shakes his head in disappointment as he casts yet another of his healing spells for the day on Althalus. “I should meditate if you plan on staying alive longer than six hours” Adonnick stated, directing his words at Althalus. Tukk Tukk, joining from the adjacent room grunted in agreement. Two consecutive 24 hour shifts guarding the party without any sleep was beginning to take it’s toll on him.

“Tukk Tukk scout ahead, make sure it safe. You go to room and sleepy Adonnick.” Tukk Tukk said before he headed back into the corridor and eastward toward the other set of open doors. The others agreed and headed back into the room with the only known bed. Tukk was determined to find the source of that scream, he had not forgotten about it as the others seem to have. Making his way closer to the corner, the awful aroma of funk began to assault his nostrils. Whatever was up that hallway, he wanted nothing to do with and made his way towards the nearest doorway.

The room was empty, and the adjacent door was opened. The room had an eerie silence to it, a very eerie silence. Tukk gripped the hilt of his greataxe, even under severe battle-fatigue he was not going down without a fight. Stepping across the next threshold a low humming sound began to fill his ear canals. Before Tukk could react, two tiny mosquitoes came barreling into the room straight for Tukk’s throat. Despite their size Tukk was not about to underestimate them by any means. Swiftly drawing his greataxe Tukk took a massive swing and connected with the nearest Mosquito sending it spiraling into the wall with a satisfying splat. The second mosquito took the opportunity to dive in for the attack, and connected with Tukk’s neck, taking a large gulp of blood as it’s reward. Swatting it off and preparing to deliver a killing blow two more mosquitoes decided to join the party, each looking for their piece of the 250lb meal. Several moments later, Tukk Tukk emerges victorious and makes his way back to the others, taking the carcasses with him to show the others the latest challenge this dungeon has tried to spit there way.

Meanwhile in the other room, the party just begins to settle in as Tukk crosses the threshold and tosses the four corpses of the mosquitoes to the floor for all to see. Visible wounds oozing with blood cover Tukk, little thought is needed as to where the wounds came from when one sees the bloodstained needle-like mouths of the mosquitoes. Without a single word Adonnick rushes to Tukk and begins to heal his wounds, using up the last of his cure spells for the day.

“Alright, now I really do need to meditate or we won’t be getting much farther at this rate.” Adonnick said.

“Tukk Tukk really tired, Tukk Tukk go to bed now” Tukk stated as he yawned. Sliding into the corner nearest the door, Tukk props his head against the hilt of his greataxe and begins to snore softly, at least as softly as a half-orc can.

The cogs began to move in Althalus’s head as a smirk plastered his face, “Tukk found a new room, maybe there is some treasure in there” he thought to himself. Daenerys just so happened to catch a glimpse of the smirk and knew immediately what Althalus was thinking, trying to stop him she said “let’s wait for Tukk to rest before we go anywhere so we can stick together.” Yet alas, this was not a good enough argument for the treasure hungry grey-elf.

Following the trail of blood out of the room, Althalus began his hunt yet again for treasure. Adonnick taking off his armor as Althalus passed scoffed “try not to die will you.”, and sat down to begin his daily meditation. Daenerys sighed, and followed after Althalus hoping to keep him out of trouble, little did she know what lied ahead.

The trail of blood ended in the room that Tukk held off the mosquitoes in, there was nothing. Althalus was extremely disappointed, and was ready to head back when suddenly his keen elven ears heard something in the distance. Before he could warn Daenerys a swarm of mosquitoes stormed the room, at first there were only five, one managed to nick Althalus in the neck, nearly disabling him. Then as quickly as those five entered, another five emerged. Althalus quickly withdrew, trying to get as far away from them as possible, he saw what they did to Tukk and wanted no part of it. The mosquitoes immediately picked up that the small grey-elf was no longer of any threat to them, all ten began to focus their attention on the small wild-elf that had been left behind. Daenerys flailed her arms around hoping to connect on at least one but alas they were two small to hone in on, she too began to retreat. Daenerys got as far as the threshold before she was knocked unconscious, drained of all energy. Althalus began shouting for help, hoping the sleeping Tukk would be able to hear his frantic shouts for help.

In the other room, Tukk hears a faint call for help. “Tukk help, hurry!”. Tukk grumbles he was just beginning to dream of a fresh breeze and a proper meal. “Wake up” Tukk shouted as he ran past Adonnick and into the direction of Althalus’s voice. Making his way around the corner just in time to watch Althalus pull the trigger on his crossbow, and a look of “Oh shit” wash over his face. Tukk charged into the room and let out a mighty yell, attempting to scare the mosquitoes away from the unconscious Daenerys. Looking down at her he noticed that she was still breathing, despite having a swarm of mosquitoes attacking her, and a shiny bolt sticking out of her backside.

While Tukk’s roar didn’t scare off the mosquitoes it did cause them to re-evaluate how much food they could get before they had to run off without being killed. The mosquitoes began to fight among themselves over who was next to get a bite of the succulent elf. Tukk took this opportunity to grab Daenerys and make his way back to the safety of their room. Knowing that she didn’t have much longer in this realm he threw her over his shoulders and made haste towards Adonnick, hoping he was awake enough to save her from the brink of death.

With the door in site the life-force of Daenerys started slipping away, it seemed as if she was really going to die, and so close to Adonnick. Yet before her soul was able to leave this plane, the Lantern Archon appeared suddenly and began to glow brightly. A warm radiant feeling began to flow over the area surrounding Daenerys. Muttering only “silly humanoids” the Archon disappeared again. When things settle down again, Tukk resumes his position by the door hoping to get some sleep before the grey-elf decided to do anything else unnecessarily reckless. This time Tukk closed the door and propped up against it so that Althalus couldn’t leave unsupervised.

After a rather uneventful, but much needed rest the party finds themselves yet again at the hands of hunger and thirst. After a quick meal, the adventures began to move on, heading north per the Archon’s suggestion. A rejuvenated Tukk took the lead, after an hour or so of exploring a new doorway was visible up ahead. Tukk heard a familiar noise, the sound of running water. Stepping across the threshold Tukk saw that the sound was coming from four pillars, one in each corner of the large room. Each pillar had a channel cut into it to allow water to run down and collect in a small pool around them.

While admiring the room, Tukk barely caught a glimpse of an Ogre rushing towards him. Managing to dodge out of the way, Tukk grabbed hold of his greataxe and took a mighty swing, connecting with the Ogre’s midsection. A shock wave of pain overcame the Ogre, it had not felt such strength in many years, this was a worthy opponent and the Ogre had no intentions of dying today not after it has done so much to survive.

“Stupid ogre, one does not fuck with Tukk Tukk!” Tukk roared, as he prepped his greataxe for another blow.

“Parlay!” the Ogre begged, holding onto his weapon defensively encase this Orc had no mercy.

Another blow from Tukk drops the Ogre to one knee, his Greatclub falls from his hand as his life flashes before his eyes. “I’d rather die to a worthy opponent, then squiddies the Ogre thought to himself.” The Ogre closes his eyes and prepares for the last blow when suddenly Tukk speaks up saying “Parlay accepted, if you draw your club, they’ll call you nub.” The Ogre nodded, and sat down. After Adonnick took a look at the wounds on the Ogre, Tukk and began to speak.

Through the conversation between Tukk & Bragdor(Ogre) the party learned a great deal about what was going on in this cell block. Apparently a “ratman” hired on a party of kobolds, lizardmen, and orcs to work for him and get treasure from the dungeon. Bragdor was employed by the Orc called Orghar, and has been waiting for him in this room since the party of Orcs he was with had been ambushed by what he called “Squiddies”. After the conversation Bragdor offered to guard the room for them, until Orghar returned for him. Having been warned about what lies up ahead the party departs from the company of Bragdor, and again heads north, towards the supposed ‘O’ cell block, and hopefully an exit from this hellish dungeon.

Making their way up the long corridor the party came across another door, peering inside they were able to see a giant stone pillar, some 10 ft. in diameter and rising from floor to ceiling, dominating the center of the room. Defaced images cover every inch of the column leaving no clue as to what they might have once been. Several open doorways lead out of the room, but they were obviously of little use to the orc corpses that litter the floor. Several bodies of reddish, leathery, octopus-like creatures are scattered about, one still attached to an orc’s head. Tukk again being the first to enter the room sees several rats strewed amongst the room, eating the corpses of dead orcs. All of them look up at Tukk and hiss, but not one dares to leave it’s current meal behind.

Tukk thinking back to what Bragdor had said about the rats being a source of food, charged in and began to beat the rats down. He had enough rations to sustain himself, but was sure that the others were beginning to run a bit low. The party entered the room behind Tukk and began working on dispatching the rats as well. Althalus, wanting to make up for his past blunder with the mosquitoes preps a bolt and aims at the rat sneaking up behind Adonnick. The bolt flies true to it’s mark, Adonnick’s back.

Adonnick turns around enraged and yells “What the hell do you think you are doing you fucking elf!”

Disabling the rats Tukk chants “Shoot the rat, make it splat, not the man, if you can!”

Daenerys giggles at Tukk’s lyrical rhymes. After making short work of the soon to be buffet of rats, Tukk began gathering the weapons of the fallen orcs and started a small fire to cook the rats. While Bragdor may be fine with eating his rats raw, Tukk knew that they couldn’t afford to become ill not if they wanted to get out of this dungeon soon and better yet alive.

Day 2: The little ball of light!

Our story continues where our last one ended. Adonnick had just finished dispatching a Fiendish Darkmantle with a swift strike of his light mace, and Tukk Tukk was readying his great-ax if another one was foolish enough to challenge the adventurers.

Alas the danger was over and the party continued on their journey to find an exit from this hellish dungeon. Tukk Tukk lowering his great-ax nods at Adonnick, obviously complementing his combative skills, but says nothing. They have already been trapped for what felt like an eternity, when in reality it was a only a mere five hours. Stomachs began to growl, and thirsts demanded to be quenched yet in the midst of all the adrenalin they went unnoticed.

Tukk Tukk took lead into the next room while Althalus and Daenerys had their wounds looked over by Adonnick. “This room clear” Tukk Tukk grunted back, being cautious not to alert whatever may be lurking in the distance. The others shortly followed, keeping close to Tukk Tukk should another assault happen upon them. The next room was similar to the previous one, but with a friendlier atmosphere while it too had an opened doorway no vicious rat swarms or disgruntle Darkmantles happened upon them. Althalus moved to the front of the party to examine the door for traps and found none.

Althalus, stepped into the hallway first, followed shortly after by the others. As Althalus began exploring the hallway, beads of sweat started to form on the temple of his forehead. Daenerys was the first to spot it, a small skeleton of a kobold with bits of leather and cloth still clinging to it’s bones. A chill ran up Daenerys’s back as she pointed it out to the other adventurers. Althalus is the first one to the skeleton, obviously looking for something of value, but finds nothing.

Having enough fun with corpses for the day Althalus begins to search the southern door for traps, finding nothing he steps through the threshold. The room looked as if it was a bedroom for someone, possibly one of the orc warriors, a table, a stool, and a bed, all intact, sit across from the door. A circle of six stools in the center of the room surrounds a pile of dirt on the floor. Althalus could hardly contain himself, this room had so many hiding places for treasure he began immediately searching treasure. Yet it was short lived as he collapsed in the center of the floor.

Daenerys was the first to notice, “Oh my! What could have caused that? Was he poisoned or sick, and if so from what?” she said as she lifted Althalus up and placed him on the nearby bed. All questions directed at the Adonnick. While Adonnick began assessing Althalus for what ailed him, Daenerys and Tukk Tukk began to explore their current situation, ensuring that it was safe to inhabit. Tukk Tukk searching the walls looking for another secret door similar to the one found earlier, and Daenerys searching the room in general to ensure there were no lurking rats or darkmantles getting ready to pounce. While neither efforts turned up any results Daenerys did notice the large pile of dirt in the center of the room. The pile looked particularly high as if something was buried in it so Daenerys began to dig into it.

After a few moments Althalus regains consciousness and Adonnick tells him and the rest of the group that he will be unable to move for the next couple of days and recommends that they shack up in this room. Yet Tukk Tukk and Daenerys are pre-occupied with something else. When Adonnick turns his attention back to Althalus, both Tukk Tukk and Daenerys vanish through a nearby wall.
Adonnick is baffled.

Tukk Tukk and Daenerys on the other emerge unscathed on the other side of the wall in a room that has seen better days. Several rough tables sit in various places in this room. Poorly constructed chairs are pushed under the tables. Everything is coated with a fine layer of dust noting that this room has not seen anything or anyone for quite some time. Both immediately begin searching the room, but find nothing of interest. Both decide that they probably shouldn’t go any further and risk drawing attention to themselves so they step back into the other room and share their findings with Adonnick as Althalus sleeps.

As things begin to calm down the stomach growls and thirsts demanded to be quenched yet again, and this time the adventurers oblige. All very worn out from the days adventurers begin to settle down and fatigue begins to take it’s toll as they each eat their rations. Adonnick is the first to bring up how they want to handle shift work, obviously excluding the sleeping Althalus. They decide that Tukk Tukk will take the first shift, by his request. Tukk Tukk posts up at the open doorway, damned if anything will get past him while his new friends are recovering. The hours tick by, and eventually Adonnick and Daenerys awake, noticing that they had not been woken up from their shifts they quickly look towards to the doorway, only to find that Tukk Tukk has not moved an inch and is still staring intently down the hallway.

Losing track of the hours, the adventurers can only know it as Day 2.

After a refreshing rest Daenerys decides to check out the other room again, after letting the others know where she is going she heads back through the wall and performs a more through search. This time it is not in vain, hidden under a pile of rubble Daenerys finds a small leather pouch with an unusual deck of playing cards, 72 in total. After examining the cryptic symbols she thinks that perhaps Adonnick may have a better understanding of what they are, and heads back into the other room to consult him. As she steps back through the secret doorway a loud, guttural scream echoes in the distance. Tukk Tukk grips his great-ax in anticipation, and Althalus immediately snaps out of his slumber. The adrenaline begins pumping again.

Daenerys rushes over to Adonnick, curious if he knows what they might be. After carefully examining them he simple replies that he doesn’t know much about them but does know that they are not of this plane.

Adonnick takes another evaluation of Althalus and determines that he can in fact continue on today. Althalus immediately springs out of the bed and into the once secret room, hoping that there might be some unclaimed treasure to be had. Yet all he finds is a trapped door that is locked by some magical means. While reporting these findings to the others Tukk Tukk spots a glowing orb of light up ahead, roaming the halls. After informing the others they begin making their way towards it.

Inching closer Adonnick recognizes what the ball of light truly is, a Lantern Archon. After realizing what it is, Adonnick let’s the group know what is going on and that the Lantern will pose no threat. After a few pokes from Tukk Tukk and speaking with Adonnick and Althalus in Celestial, the Archon eventually picks up on what language the entire party speaks. After answering some of the adventurers questions regarding where they are at and why they can’t get out the adventurers find out that they are in what is essentially a prison cell for nearly every type of monster known (and some unknown) to ever exist. While the Archon had very limited knowledge about the entire prison, he knew quite a bit of information regarding his cell, including that something was very wrong. He went on to tell the adventurers that someone is amiss in his block but he isn’t quite sure just what it is. Before the adventurers can pull any more information from the Archon he vanishes, but he did inform them that the exit to the dungeon is located north of here in cell block O.

Exploring the rooms north of the Archon the adventurers, namely Althalus, finds himself being ambushed by a team of Darkmantles followed by a group of fiendish rats. Nearly dead Althalus yet again finds his life being saved by Adonnick and his faithful light mace!

Day 1: Trapped!
Day 1

Our adventure begins inside of a nearby cave where our adventurers meet for the first time all trying to avoiding a passing storm. Bound under storm-peace the adventurers decide to swap stories of past explorations and begin to grow quite restless. They begin to explore their surrounds.

Upon further inspection of the room the adventurers stumble upon two doors one to the north, and one to the east. Althalus, the Grey-Elf Thief, decides that the northern door would be the better of the two and Tukk Tukk agrees.

The door slides open uncontested and melds into a barrier overlaying the threshold. A small rat scurrying by is the first one through the threshold. Followed by the adventurers shortly after. The new room is consumed with an eerie darkness, and the adventurers hear a stifled cough letting them know they are not alone.

Althalus and Tukk Tukk investigate the noise, inching ever closer to three orc warriors. All looking rather worse for wear. The largest of the orcs looks towards Tukk Tukk, a fellow orc(half), and requests that he end their lives. Althalus is the first to strike, tired of their depressing attitudes he lodges a bolt into the throat of one of the orcs. None of the other orcs move, as the fallen orc smiles and mouths what appears to be “thank you” to Althalus.

“Just what has happened here?” Adonnick asks the orcs, He senses that something is wrong with this place. The only response he receives is “You will see…” as Tukk Tukk’s mighty battle axe lands across the neck of the last orc. Tukk Tukk, no longer wanting any part of this dungeon attempts to leave the way they came through. Only to find that there is no sign of the door, anywhere… Daenerys mutters under her breath upon hearing this news.

Althalus mentions that they should probably find a way out and begins trying out the doorways in the room, as Adonnick tries to find out what might have been ailing the orc warriors. Althalus’s search down one corridor returns a room filled with a foul stench, and what appears to be troglodyte remains, and another room whose door appears to be locked.

Daenerys chimes in that perhaps they should look for the key, it has to be somewhere. Adonnick reports that the bodies had no key on them, a side note from his evaluation of the corpses, and decides to keep the information he gathers about the orcs to himself… no need to cause more panic to this fine mess they are already in.

After setting off numerous traps, and finding some more corpses the group stumbles upon some tools in an abandoned storage room, but no key. Daenerys has an idea, and shares with the group that perhaps they can use the tool kit to break the hinges off of the door! The others agree excitedly. Making their way back to the door, Daenerys begins to smash off the hinges, one by one, the bashing sound echoes throughout the room.

The door falls to the ground in front of them, and out pours a swarm of fiendish rats. However, the group makes short work of them, Tukk Tukk in particular. Entering the room everything appears in order, except the remnants of what was an orc warrior. His hand is outstretched in the direction of the doorway the Adventurers just walked through. Upon further examination of the corpse it appears that there are several holes in the corpse’s neck, arm, and leg. Each hole also has up to eight smaller, rough punctures near it almost as if ripped by pincers.

The group is baffled, none able to identify what could have caused these wounds. Tukk Tukk’s eyes widen, he has seen wounds like this before. Tukk Tukk’s eyes immediately scan the ceiling and walls, he sprints off through the next doorway as if searching for something Adonnick follows closely behind. However, before Adonnick can make it through the room is blanked in darkness, and Daenerys and Althalus still examining the corpse feel tentacles brushing against their head. Althalus shouts out that something is in there with them, Adonnick needing no other warning immediately rushes blindly through the doorway. Tukk Tukk begins shouting telling the two elves to follow the sound of his voice.

Althalus and Daenerys quickly obliged and emerged into the new room with Adonnick and Tukk Tukk, followed by their assailant, a Fiendish Darkmantle. A swift bash from Adonnick sends it spiraling into a nearby wall, lifeless.
